WOODLANDS W/L ROUND 7 07/02/2010

HI folks back to woodlands on sunday for round 7 of the w/league. drawn out peg 35 back deans great i thought i had won the lake off the peg before christmas so i should know what to do? as all the ice had melted(finally) i could set up the lead/cone and the wagg.
Peg 35 on is one out the corner so with 34 out it is the corner peg? i set about the the peg with 4 lines of attack.
Line 1. 14.5m pole line with pellet & corn straight out in front set up with a 4x14 j-range float 0.12 18 808 & 11 hollo elastic.
Line 2. 14.5m pole line at 2 o'clock pinkie line garbo dc 13 0.30gr spread out bulk and 2 droppers 0.10 20 808 & double no5 elastic.
Line 3. middle of lake with pellet cone, 4lb maxima to 0.16 hooklength 16 preston pr27.
The horn sounded and i fed my 2 pole lines with very little bait and threw the pellet cone into the middle of the lake with hair rigged corn. The first hour went by with no signs of a bite not even a linner but i was not worried as i have waited 2-3 hours before and caught well later on. I waited another half hour with no action so i went on my pinkie line to put some fish in the net? I should have known it wasn't going to be easy with ian whitehouse ( a very good pinkie angler) on my left on peg 37 fishing pinkies from the start and 1 1/2 hours in had just one small roach and a missed bite, plus the guys opposite were not catching either. 20 minutes later i had my first bite a 1oz roach, another 20 mins later bite no2 a 1 oz perch (this is quick i thought) after another 20 biteless mins out went the pellet rig half hour later not a sign i was starting to get worried. 3 hours had gone by now and no one up our end of the lake was catching anything of note just odd silver so out went the waggler to the areator with maggot and corn with no bites after 20 mins i was now faced with a choice of trying to catch anything on sitting it out for a carp? I must stress at this late stage of the league my team (storey's fools) wasn't doing any good lying in 7th place overall and with no chance of winning anything, so i made the descsion to go for broke with the straight lead and corn.
TOLD YOU THE ICKY BROWN STUFF WOULD HIT THE FAN?
After throwing the lead around all over the peg and twitch back searching for a bite trying everything in the book to induce a bite changing baits , corn, pellet, maggot and flo pinkies i couldn't get a bite and ended the match with 2 fish for 2oz?
OH DEAR I SAID TO MYSELF ( OR WORDS TO THAT EFFECT )FROM HERO TO ZERO IN 5 HOURS FLAT, THREE LAKE WINS ON THE BOUNCE THEN LAST ON THE LAKE? Ian on my left had fished pinkies for 90% of the match for 2lb 13oz of bits and the 2 guys opposite had had around the same 2-3lb of silvers. none of us had hooked or seen a sign of a carp? the lake was won at the other end peg47 17lb odd and only 10lb was second? I can only assume that after the big thaw that the carp had gone to seek out deeper water at the other end of the that is around 2ft deeper than my end, my discsion to go for big fish was governed by the fact that my team was already out of it and i could fully understand ian's discsion to fish pinkies back to front was because his team ( noddy's and big ears) have real good chance of winning the league.
On reflection i don't think i had done anything wrong as no carp were hooked up my end of the lake and 2lb of bit's was going to do my team any good so i went shit or bust (and bust) as one bite would have put me in the top six on the lake ( the carp average 4-8lb) and two bites might have given me second or third on the lake?
SHIT HAPPEN'S SEE YOU SOON.
