WOODLANDS W/L ROUND 8 21/2/10

Hi folks, back to woodlands view for round 8 of the teams of four w/l. Talking to the lads in the cafe before the draw and it has become very apparent that you need to draw the bottom end of the lake in the deeper water as the top end shallower pegs have become very hard?
The draw started and i was praying for a good un' after my last on the lake in the last round! out popped peg 37 again SHIT WRONG END OF THE LAKE. I know you are going to say but you won the lake and the match overall off the peg two rounds, yes i did but it had 2lb off it on the last round ( the fish have fins and they use them )?
So off i plodded to peg 37 with my head down and well pissed off at my luck at the draw bag chuntering to myself along the way.
As i sat on my peg pondering what to do i decided to go on a mainly pinkie attack as i didnt want to sit there again on the straight lead an blow out i set up as follows.
RIG 1, A 0.30gr garbo dc 13 float with a strung on bulk of stotz of 8's & 10's, 0.10 silstar line to a 20 808 and double no5 elastic, this was for fishing 14.5m at 12 o'clock.
RIG 2, Was a 4 x 14 j-8 range float shoted with a bulk and two droppers, 0.12 line to 18 pr27 and f1 micro band for 4 & 6mm hard pellet and 11 hollo elastic.
RIG 3, Was my lead rod set up for double corn only to be used if anyone around me had a carp.
On the whistle i put in 20 pellets at 14.5m on a 10 o'clock line to my left and started on my pinkie line at 12 o'clock with 6 pinkies in the fruit shoot pot every put in not wanting to overfeed them at the start and to feel my way in. After only a mins i had my first bite a small roach, a few more followed but only in the 1-3oz range but i was doing as well as anyone up my end of the lake so carried on. After about 2hrs i had 1 small 6oz tench 1 4oz skimmer and around 15 roach for maybe 2 1/2lb, i was beating the two guys opposite and the guy to my right on corner peg 35
but the guy on my left had had a 3lb carp and 2 1lb skimmers on the pellet. So with bites slowing on the pinkie i had a look on my pellet line shaking 6 pellets out of the pot and lowered the rig in and waited. After 20 mins of lifting draging 4 & 6mm pellet no bites so up the bank it went and back out on the pinkie for a few more bits, listening to the gossip on the bank it seemed that the pool was fishing rock hard with only i peg catching 47 same old pegs the one that won the lake on the last round?
That was the pattern for the rest of the match as bite's slowed on the pinkie i would have 10 mins on the lead and corn or on the pellet line. Into the last hour i had 2 bonus skimmers on the pinkie in amongst the odd roach as i could see no one was catching except the guy to my left on peg 39 who had managed to snare another carp. With 10 mins to go the guy opposite on peg 60 had thrown out the lead and was playing a good fish, when he netted it was the all out and looked to be close to double figures. As the scales came round i found out peg 47 had 37lb the same guy who had drawn it on the last round and with one team not turning up he had peg 45 empty to his right???? all the pegs to my left had broken double figures with the guy to my left weighing 10lb odd and i weighed in 5lb 14oz that put me 5th on the pool the guy to my right had 3lb.Over on the other side the guy with the 10lb lump weighed in 13lb and he was the only one over there to beat me i ended up 6th on the lake half way. A better result than the last match and not a bad weekend overall, our team done no good again and it seems that there are a few fish being caught on the other lakes but for some reason back deans is fishing rock hard, even Ade Mason asked me what i thought about it, why was b/deans fishing so hard and i couldn't give him a good reason?
Thanks for reading i hope it warms up soon i am brassed off with this cold weather now!

hawfordbridge open 20/2/10

Hi folks, my next match me and my travelling (sorry chauffeur) partner john baker (aka Stavros) booked in on an open at hawford bridge (trevs pools). The match had been booked as a practice match for the first round of the V.D.E clubman supercup, we had been drawn away to Rexel AC. This is there home venue with them fishing a winterleague on there i thought this was going to be a difficult round to get through due to there local knowledge. The third club in the tie was a team from my home town of Cradley heath called the white swan known locally as jaspers.
We made the draw and i was pegged on the smaller middle lake (Broomhill). I was pegged on the left hand bank half way along with my back to the bottom pool ( sorry no permanent pegs on here), I was well pleased with the draw as me and my mate had practiced on the same bank on the tuesday and had caught well on both pole and waggler with about 60-70lb apiece i was only one peg to the left where i had fished on the tuesday.
I knew this match was going to be harder than tuesday due to more people on the bank and the mercury had dropped to -5 in the night and was only ice free due to Trevor leaving the aerator's on all night.
I set up as follow's;
RIG 1, 1 gram maver jona float for fishing at 14.5m for pellet & corn, 0.12 silstar line to an 18 808 set at dead depth in 8-9ft of water with an olivette and 2 droppers.
RIG 2, 4x16 j-8 range float set on the deck at 6m in 6 1/2 ft water with an Olivette and 2 droppers 0.12 to 18 808.
RIG 3, 13ft daiwa tournament float rod coupled with a Shimano 2500 super gtm reel 2.5gr Drennan crystal loaded waggler with all the shot around the float and only a size 22 swivel down the line to attach the hooklength.A size 16 b611 to 0.12 h/l and 3lb Maxima mainline. There is an islands down the middle of the lake at around 30m from our bank and 18-20m from the opposite bank. I had set this rig at 4ft (half depth) as i had 8 carp and a chub on this on tuesday.
Bait wise i had got 1 pint of damp micro pellets (fishery's own), 1 1/2 pints of white maggots, a small tin of corn and some 4mm & 6mm soft hook pellets.
On the whistle i put in 2 grains of corn and around a half a kinder eggs worth of micro's at 14.5m and the same at 6m then started to fire around 6-8 maggots 3/4 across to the island. It took around 40mins to get my first bite on the long line and a carp of around 2lb was in the net, were off i thought?? another hour had gone by without another bite on either pole lines. so out went the wagg double magg and i starting getting bites but they were only small roach.2 hours gone and the word on the bank was it was fishing very hard due to the hard frost with only one angler on the top pool catching carp regular and just odd fish everywhere else.
After around 2 1/2 hours i had a bite on the 14.5 line only to part company after around 5 seconds, i went back out with another 4mm pellet on and a few micros in the pot and got another bite straight away and carp no 2 was in the net.Next put in and the same result 3 bites in 3 put ins BINGO??????NO, I thought i had cracked it but the fish had'nt read the script. I kept ringing the changes to no avail then heard my mate Stav had started catching one a bung on the other side.
With just over an hour to go i had 3 carp and around 10 roach to show for my efforts, the guy to my right had 2 carp and some bigger silvers on the pole the guy to my left was struggling with only bit's. I went back out on my 14.5m line with double magg over the top of my pellet line and bingo a carp next put in the same result and that's how the last hour went every time i went out with maggot i had a fish every time i put a pellet or corn on the float stood still? ( STRANGE BUT TRUE)
On the all out i had finished with around 15 carp and a few roach i knew my mate had a good weight as he caught well for the last 2 hours. I walked around the top pool(Pennlake) with the scales asking questions and watching the weigh in BIG Ritchie was he first to have a few fish he had 32lb on straight lead and corn up the island. The next few pegs had very little, then Andy chandler had 58lb on the wagg and magg at half depth without feeding ( to far to feed maggots as the top pool is a lot bigger than the middle). The rest of the pool had fished hard with only odd fish caught, down on my pool Stav had 42lb 13oz and a 20lb next to him on his right the rest of the pool had been harder with no carp and only a few silvers showing. I put my fish on the scales they went 29lb 4oz Tony on my right had 17lb and i was happy with second on the pool as they were paying 2 on each lake.
So with a few beer tokens in the back pocket and our team starting to get a feel for the place it was a job well done. On reflection the match had fish quite well in the conditions as a quick phone call to mate of mine who was fishing his VDE qualifier at packington sommers had reveled only 14lb had won there through the ice and only 5-6lb average.
THANKS FOR READING THIS YOU CAN WAKE UP NOW! CHEERS WHERE'S THE STELLA?

WOODLANDS W/L ROUND 7 07/02/2010

HI folks back to woodlands on sunday for round 7 of the w/league. drawn out peg 35 back deans great i thought i had won the lake off the peg before christmas so i should know what to do? as all the ice had melted(finally) i could set up the lead/cone and the wagg.
Peg 35 on is one out the corner so with 34 out it is the corner peg? i set about the the peg with 4 lines of attack.
Line 1. 14.5m pole line with pellet & corn straight out in front set up with a 4x14 j-range float 0.12 18 808 & 11 hollo elastic.
Line 2. 14.5m pole line at 2 o'clock pinkie line garbo dc 13 0.30gr spread out bulk and 2 droppers 0.10 20 808 & double no5 elastic.
Line 3. middle of lake with pellet cone, 4lb maxima to 0.16 hooklength 16 preston pr27.
The horn sounded and i fed my 2 pole lines with very little bait and threw the pellet cone into the middle of the lake with hair rigged corn. The first hour went by with no signs of a bite not even a linner but i was not worried as i have waited 2-3 hours before and caught well later on. I waited another half hour with no action so i went on my pinkie line to put some fish in the net? I should have known it wasn't going to be easy with ian whitehouse ( a very good pinkie angler) on my left on peg 37 fishing pinkies from the start and 1 1/2 hours in had just one small roach and a missed bite, plus the guys opposite were not catching either. 20 minutes later i had my first bite a 1oz roach, another 20 mins later bite no2 a 1 oz perch (this is quick i thought) after another 20 biteless mins out went the pellet rig half hour later not a sign i was starting to get worried. 3 hours had gone by now and no one up our end of the lake was catching anything of note just odd silver so out went the waggler to the areator with maggot and corn with no bites after 20 mins i was now faced with a choice of trying to catch anything on sitting it out for a carp? I must stress at this late stage of the league my team (storey's fools) wasn't doing any good lying in 7th place overall and with no chance of winning anything, so i made the descsion to go for broke with the straight lead and corn.
TOLD YOU THE ICKY BROWN STUFF WOULD HIT THE FAN?
After throwing the lead around all over the peg and twitch back searching for a bite trying everything in the book to induce a bite changing baits , corn, pellet, maggot and flo pinkies i couldn't get a bite and ended the match with 2 fish for 2oz?
OH DEAR I SAID TO MYSELF ( OR WORDS TO THAT EFFECT )FROM HERO TO ZERO IN 5 HOURS FLAT, THREE LAKE WINS ON THE BOUNCE THEN LAST ON THE LAKE? Ian on my left had fished pinkies for 90% of the match for 2lb 13oz of bits and the 2 guys opposite had had around the same 2-3lb of silvers. none of us had hooked or seen a sign of a carp? the lake was won at the other end peg47 17lb odd and only 10lb was second? I can only assume that after the big thaw that the carp had gone to seek out deeper water at the other end of the that is around 2ft deeper than my end, my discsion to go for big fish was governed by the fact that my team was already out of it and i could fully understand ian's discsion to fish pinkies back to front was because his team ( noddy's and big ears) have real good chance of winning the league.
On reflection i don't think i had done anything wrong as no carp were hooked up my end of the lake and 2lb of bit's was going to do my team any good so i went shit or bust (and bust) as one bite would have put me in the top six on the lake ( the carp average 4-8lb) and two bites might have given me second or third on the lake?
SHIT HAPPEN'S SEE YOU SOON.

Woodlands view teams of winter league

sorry i forgot to put the title on the last entry please excuse me i am not up to speed with these computer things?
At last a day fishing instead of getting sore thumbs playing to much ps3. All winter our team decided to stick to fishing the same pool ( me parking on back deans) as we felt you get to to know the good and bad pegs as well as what to do on each peg? I ended up on peg 37 great area as i had won the section and lake off peg 35 on round 4 before christmas with 35lb and won the lake and second overall on round 3 off peg 62 opposite with 68lb great, like a dog with 2 d***s.
SHIT got to peg...all the other lakes had got ice patches on them with both paddles and mike's underwater aerators going full tilt to clear the ice, the paddle at our end of the lake inbetween pegs 34 and 64 had be taken out due to the motor burning through over use over the last few weeks. idle git i here you cry! no i am not frightened of a bit of ice breaking but when all my weights before christmas have all come to the pellet cone you can understand my dissmay. So with no pellet cone action out with the ice breaker 30 mins later and lots of sweat a 13m x 5m hole was in front of me. I set up just 2 rigs one with a garbo dc13 0.30 with 0.10 straight through to a 20 808 and doubled up no 5 spread bulk of 8's & 10's stotz for the pinkie. rig 2 was a j-range (kc chimp only with a thicker wire stem) 4 x 14 0.12 to a 18 808 pellet rig with a bulk and 2 droppers and 11 hollo laccy.
The whistle went, on one line up to the edge of the ice to my left i put in 20 4mm pellets & 2 grains of corn for later and on the other to my right 12 fluro pinkies. first put in on double flo pinkie and the float buried and a 5oz rudd was in the pan( job done avoid the dreaded DNW at all costs on a team match), a quick look round and ian boden on the next peg 35 was netting a 4lb carp SHIT! next put in 6 pinkies in the pot the float shot under and a 1 1/2lb f1 was netted great! looked up ian was into another carp double shit? i was 5 mins into the match and needing snookersSo the first 45 mins went the same way every time i looked up ian was playing a fish i had had 2 f1's a skimmer and 4 roach/rudd, ian had 6 carp? the only consolation was that we were the only 2 on the lake catching. brainwave ian was on pellet i was on pinkie so out went the pellet rig potted in 6 pellets and a 4mm soft pellet on the hook. a bite first put in and a 2lb carp was in the onion sack what had i been doing? 20 mins later no more bites and ians early action had stopped so back out went the pinkie and for the rest of the match i had odd fish some f1's & a few skimmers. ians match had ened after those first 45 mins.
with 10 mins to go i was bagging at the time with 3 fish in three put ins and the float went under and i found myself attached to something big stripping out yards of double 5 laccy under the ice after about 9 mins of hanging on i netted the beast and at about 10-12lb i was well pleased with myself but my poor double no5 was hanging out around 2 foot shagged. So with the all out i had ended up with 1 small carp, 9 f1's some skimmers and a few roach/ rudd for about 15/16lb and said beast. when the scales came only 10lb was winning the lake mine went 28lb 12oz and ians 6 carp went 16lb odd all in that first 45mins. great i had won the lake for 3rd time on the bounce i was the dogs b******s ian was second on lake. then it got even better when we got back to the cafe and i found out i had won the match overall.
my team was 6th out of 13 not great but better than last.
dont worry if you think this guy must be shit hot wait untill the next round when the s**t hits the fan?

thanks for reading hope i have'nt bored you to much.cheers. i'm off for a stella.
